Sallys Rocking Horses Ltd

Armstrong rocking horse

Smithers

Early Ian Armstrong rocking horse.

A distinctive design horse in laminate construction. All in full working order with a detachable saddle, although this can be secured into place quite easily. Armstrong cleverly made the side rails on this horse curved to superficially resemble a bow rocker. This is an earlier version of his horses, being significantly stronger than later models.

In good condition for age, we have refurbished the detachable saddle, this horse is available as is or fully restored, which will include sanding and varnishing the horse itself and stand.

Height 45"

Body Length 27"

Ian Armstrong was a rocking horse maker trading in the North East in the eighties and nineties. He used laminate construction, which involves gluing pre-cut sheets of plywood together and sanding off the resultant block to produce a rocking horse. Whilst such construction does not lend itself to fine carving, Armstrong compensated to some extent by his distinctive styling. We have found these rocking horses to be very sturdy and durable, with some now still in fine working condition at forty or more years of age.
